The root of my inability to deactivate or delete my Facebook account, erasing data completely is a Facebook app I created for a client about three years ago.
It was a civic organization, leadership was disorganized and eventually the website I created for the organization was erased and replaced with a new site.
Recently I was able to make contact with the organization’s new leadership who are very willing to help. However, we soon realized the email address no longer exists, that particular Facebook app (used for posting to the Web from Facebook and vice versa) also no longer existed.
But back in Facebook world the app still exists. I am locked out of even though I created it.
Facebook requires that all apps be deleted if you want to delete your account.
Facebook customer service is a fiction. I have tried repeatedly to contact Facebook and it appears it gives you standard responses that are nothing more than automated replies. There is no way to contact a human at Facebook directly. Requests for help are apparently vigorously ignored.
This I’m forced to tell my story and tell other how to delete ALL of their Facebook data.
Funny thing about that.
This is Day 6 of deleting my Facebook info and I’ve discovered MORE things. Facebook will not allow me delete photos and images associated with the Pages I’ve created. It let me take a few down and them promptly stopped responding.
More scrubbing is needed, posts keep appearing from nowhere delaying completing of Part of How To Get Facebook Out Of Your Life And Take Your Data With You.
Until then, you may have seen this but Facebook is the social media that just can’t stop giving or connecting —
